Project

Heart of Worcestershire College Giant Mural

The Concept

In partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College (HoW) and Arts in Redditch, Reimagine Redditch commissioned a street art mural for HoW College’s campus in Redditch in autumn 2025.

The completed artwork – ‘Chasing Hope’ – is the single largest piece of street art in Redditch.

Heart of Worcestershire College plays a pivotal role in the community, inspiring people and shaping futures. By creating a signature work of street art at its Redditch Campus, students, staff, and residents will feel inspired by Redditch’s potential by engaging in culture.

This in turn generates new possibilities for learning, for community engagement and cohesion, and for other potential and unseen outcomes for everyone.

Partnership with HoW College

A message from Michelle Dowse, Principal and Chief Executive of Heart of Worcestershire College:

“We want our campuses to be great places of learning for our students.

But we also want to model excellence, ambition and collaboration to demonstrate what we’re all about to the wider community.

A street art mural will help us to show the impact we’re making in Redditch.

This is a really exciting project which we hope will inspire countless stakeholders – whether they are learning or working at our College, or residents and visitors to the borough – to be ambitious about what is possible in Redditch and to know that great arts and culture can happen here.”

Artist – Andy Dice / Dice67

Meet the project artist

We needed an artist with a distinctive creative approach to create this new signature artwork for Redditch Town Centre at Heart of Worcestershire’s Redditch Campus.

Andy Dice (aka Dice67) is Founder and Director of Cheltenham Paint Festival, one of the biggest and most well respected festivals in the country.

As an artist painting in the public domain, Dice67’s work is varied, often thought provoking and colourful. Dice uses stencilling to painting freehand murals in spray, acrylics, masonry and household emulsions.

He has painted the Sky Arts Studio, Arsenal Football Club and portraits for the bands Killing Joke and The Stranglers as well as many more.

Chasing Hope

Artist Andy Dice says: “The artwork at HoW College, Redditch campus depicts a Starling murmuration in the sunset. As well as drawing attention to the plight of these beautiful birds, it hopes to show that, by working together as a community, order can come from chaos and create beauty. It represents hope, unity and a collective purpose.”

Objectives of the Project

The final artwork communicates an inspirational vision for the future of Redditch, as well as responding to themes identified through a rigorous consultation phase in February and March 2024.

UNITY – representing the community spirit in Redditch and to support and to celebrate its togetherness

FREEDOM AND FLIGHT – inspired by the starling murmuration in Redditch, freedom and flight represents the possibilities of art and education for young people and indicates that they have the power to shape their futures

INNOVATION & INDUSTRY – building on Redditch’s industrial past by focusing on the new industries of today and the future, like the potential of Redditch as a digital manufacturer through HoW College’s Innovation Centre

ENVIRONMENT – celebrating Redditch’s much loved green spaces and natural environment, as well as fostering ways in which young people in Redditch can take care of, and build, their communities

The final artwork:

  • Is a distinctive street art mural about Redditch’s future possibilities
  • Meets the thematic and artistic ambition outlined in the project brief
  • Enhances pride among students, staff, residents and the wider population
