Bee Creative Redditch

The Concept

In the summer of 2024, Reimagine Redditch started working with Imaan Youth Club Redditch to explore how arts could be embedded into their youth curriculum.

The Imaan Youth Club is a volunteer-led group, founded by professional Muslim women who wanted young people from the Muslim faith to access youth provision and learn about their faith in an informal setting; the group also promotes community values, good morals and ethics.

The group meets weekly on Saturdays and mainly with young people aged from 6-11.

The group has studied Surah An-Nahl (The Bee) in the Quran and was interested in exploring this theme through creative activities.

Workshops – Summer 2024

We collaborated with the Imaan Youth Group Redditch to introduce new visual art forms.

In August 2024, the young people participated in a week-long summer school where they worked with different artists to explore the theme of ‘bees’ through graffiti, textiles, Islamic geometric patterns, calligraphy and glass painting.

 

Exhibition

The group wishes to consolidate its learning, share what they have created to date and create new work in the form of an immersive experience for the public to attend.

We commissioned arts collective Vortex Creates to work with young people in the Imaan Youth Club to co-create an interactive, multi-sensory experience celebrating the vital role of bees in our environment: for everyone in Redditch to enjoy.

The final event aims:

1) Educational: to raise awareness of bees, grounded in the teaching of Surah an-Nahl, and to explore the importance of bees in the Quran and to the environment.

2) Community: to bring together Redditch communities to celebrate the talents and creativity of young Muslims in Redditch.

3) Environment: to inspire young people in Redditch to support the bee ecosystem and positively impact the environment.

 

The Miracle of the Bees – interactive, multi-sensory experience

Journey through an interactive, multi-sensory experience celebrating the vital role of bees in our environment.

Inspired by the teachings of Surah an-Nahl (the Bee) in the Quran, the experience invites visitors of all ages to explore the wonders of bees and their importance to the environment.

Objectives of the Project 

Bee Creative is a 6-month-long creative project for the Imaan Youth Group, Redditch.

The project has 3 aims for the community:

1) New experiences for young people and volunteers to work with creatives

2)Exploring creative practice which can be embedded in their youth curriculum

3)Developing volunteers commissioning and co creating skills.

Vortex Creates deliver workshops weekly.
