Batchley Bench

Sit back and relax on Batchley’s Stunning New Mosaic Bench

Artist Jackie Nash’s stunning new mosaics bench at Batchley Pool is inspired by mosaics designed and created by the local community. It features local wildlife, plants, and flowers, which together create a strong sense of place.

This is part of Reimagine Redditch’s public art project Paint the Town Redditch. Paint the town Redditch is a broad programme of public art, which is seeing physical and digital artworks brought to the borough, both co-created with local people and others which are artist led.

The Concept

The Batchley community told us they wished to celebrate the history of Batchley Pool and the creation of the ‘old’ mosaics design embedded in the wall by the pool as part of its redevelopment in 2003.

People in Batchley also told us they wanted to take part in more creative activities and events.

Partnership with Batchley Support Group

During the winter and spring of 2025 people in Batchley came together to take part in a mosaic course, with our partner Batchley Support Group. Professional mosaic artist Jackie Nash led the course.

Today, on the wall opposite to the play area we have added these new community mosaic artworks to the original community mosaic project, which took place in 2003.

Artist – Jackie Nash

Mosaics

In addition to the new mosaics installed at the pool wall, we commissioned Jackie Nash to create a mosaics bench inspired by the mosaics designed and created by the local community.

Experienced mosaic artist and a passionate teacher, Jackie is known for her vibrant, colourful mosaics that breathe new life into ordinary spaces. With a unique eye for detail and a love for bold design, she transforms everyday environments and objects into uplifting, extraordinary works of art.

The bench is now installed at Batchley Pool and being enjoyed by the local community.

Objectives of the Project

The Batchley Bench commission is part of our Mosaics by the Pool project, which gave participants the opportunity to connect with others on the course, and make new friends and social bonds. It also provided the chance to learn new techniques and gain new skills to independently create mosaic artworks.

The mosaic bench is a celebration of the local community, and their ideas and words are included in the design. The artwork reflects the nature of Batchley Pool and the positive impact this has on the community.
